Methodology / Technical Information
SiteMetrix works through placing identical code on all of your web pages. This code works in conjunction with a JavaScript file that is stored in the website root directory. This means that as technology develops and we are capable of gathering additional information, upgrades can be attained simply by replacing the JavaScript file with the latest version.
When a visitor views your website, the SiteMetrix code is executed. This gathers and sends the information in its rawest format to a Bluemetrix server. All processing of the data is carried out on our servers so there is no additional load on the viewer's browser. This also means that since we collect all of the raw data, we have the ability to process this data in any way you require.
SiteMetrix uses a randomly generated cookie to distinguish between new and return visitors to your website. There is however, a non cookie version available if it is your policy not to use cookies on your website.
